Have you ever been looking at old family photos and asked, “Who is that?” We’ve all been there and done that with old photos in shoe boxes or albums, having no idea who the people were. These may be your own photos but were most likely photos your parents or grandparents had.
Any photo is delicate unless framed or stored in an acid free, photo safe album. Before storing away, try to get them labeled with names, dates, and places so future generations will know who the photographed people were. Here’s a Zig Photo Signature Marker you might want to use to label your photos. The ink is photo safe, permanent, waterproof, acid free, and lightfast.
These days we seem to have loads of digital pics on our computers, camera cards, or phones. Every so often I put them onto DVDs. I sort and label them into folders with dates and places before archiving in an archival storage bin. Special DVDs that I make for family and friends, I use the LightScribe software to laser etch text and graphics onto the surface of each DVD. Lately, newer tech like flash drives and digital storage is being used more often instead of DVDs and CDs.
Have you come up with a solution to all those old photos you have? What about all your digital pics? I’d love to hear your ideas about saving them for future generations.
