Have you heard of Weed Appreciation Day? It is observed annually on March 28.
Do you dislike weeds and want to destroy them?
Did you know that weeds have benefits? They add nutrients to the soil as well as help protect the soil against wind and water erosion. Some weeds are used for:
• bio-fuel
• making edible proteins
• paper pulp
• ornamental plants
• food for wildlife
• medicinal purposes
• food for people
According to the dictionary, a weed is:
• a valueless plant growing wild, especially one that grows on cultivated ground to the exclusion or injury of the desired crop
• any undesirable or troublesome plant, especially one that grows profusely where it is not wanted
I’m thinking that maybe the definition needs updated!
