WAS IT THE WIND?
Submitted by Lori from Love My Big Happy Family.
I was relaxing on my bed before it was time to turn in for the night. My daughter sat on the cedar chest at the foot of my bed visiting with me. It had been raining most of the day and it was coming down pretty steady at the time.
Somehow our conversation got around to spirits, ghosts and demons. I mostly just make fun of those that watch the ghost hunter shows. My daughter and I reminisced about the time the guy in one of those shows claimed to have found claw marks on his stomach after getting out of the shower. We had laughed that the dummy must have forgotten all about that itch he had scratched in the middle of his shower. But this particular night we were discussing whether or not we believed that such otherworldly creatures could be real.
We agreed that there must be some kind of foundation that leads so many people to believe in them. However, I told her I didn’t think such things could affect people unless they allowed them to. She speculated that there may be places where encounters were more likely, such as an old abandoned prison.
As we talked in my dimly lit room, the rain pattered steady and loud outside. I began to think maybe we better change the subject before one or both of us might have a hard time falling asleep, or maybe even have a nightmare. My daughter must have been thinking the same thing cause that line of conversation kind of came to a close right about then.
As we sat there in the brief lull of only a few seconds, from right outside the bedroom window we heard an eerie sound, “Ooo, Ooo, Ooooo!”
Startled, we stared at each other with wide eyes, wondering for just a moment what on earth that terribly spooky sound was!
As we realized what it was, we both burst into hysterical laughter as the rain outside the window fell and the wind wooshed back and forth.
But the very strange thing was, that was the one and only time that evening that the wind made that very distinct sound.
Was it a ghost or just the wind?
Do you believe?
