THE WOMAN IN LOTTIE’S HOUSE
Submitted by Lydia.
When I was about 6 or 7, we lived in Columbia, SC. My mom worked so we had a maid named Lottie that also babysat us.
One time we went to pick her up. She was probably in her 50s during that time and lived in a big two-story house. It was over 100 years old and had been the main house on a plantation.
When we pulled up to the house she didn’t come out so I ran up to her door to get her.
Lottie opened the front door and as I stood there looking passed her, I saw a woman standing at the top of the inside stairs.
As we were walking back to our car, I asked Lottie who was the lady at her house?
She stopped dead in her tracks and told me that was the ghost of the lady that owned the house years ago. She had left the house to Lottie’s mother because she took care of her.
This was back in the 60s. The woman at the top of the stairs had been dead since Lottie was a little girl.
She told me not to ever mention it to my mom because she would never let Lottie take care of us again. So, I never did.
Lottie talked to me and my brother about the lady several times. But I never told my mom.
A couple of years ago hubby did a job near Columbia, and we passed the road where Lottie’s house was.
It was a dirt road and the house was quite a way down the road. I wanted to go see that house again but we were in a hurry.
I remember that road so clearly and my first encounter with a ghost!
Hmm…What do you think?
