This short story will be linked up at the WEDNESDAY WRITING PROMPT 9 – APPLES IMAGE – 200 WORDS OR LESS.
THE OLD APPLE TREE
This image brings back such wonderful memories for me!
My grandparents had an old apple tree out from their back porch. Every summer as a child, I’d pick and eat apples until my stomach hurt. I later learned I shouldn’t eat them until they were ripe. At the time though, I was just glad to be tall enough to reach a few.
Oh, and what joy it was to smell apple pies baking in my grandmother’s kitchen! She also canned the apples as well as put some in the freezer. And, I can never forget about her homemade applesauce and apple butter, YUM!!
Isn’t it nice at times how an image can cause you to recall something? Recalling a sweet memory like this always makes me smile, not just about the apple tree but about my grandmother, she was the best!!
We don’t have an apple tree in our yard but hopefully years from now our grandbabies will have their memories jogged by something just as sweet!!
