Pet peeve is defined as a particular and often continual annoyance.
Do you have any pet peeves? I do and today today I’m talking about paper towels but not just any paper towel.
Seems most of the local stores and online platforms are stocking the type for choose, pick, or select your own size. I know these types of paper towels were invented for those who don’t want or don’t need to use a whole sheet but I find it easier to just tear off a small piece or tear the towel into two pieces…if and when on a rare occasion I don’t need a full sheet.
I’ve used Scott brand paper towels for years but am now using Bounty because I can’t find Scott with full size sheets. Are they still making them? Bounty makes the choose, pick, or select your own size but they also make the whole sheets without perforations.
In the past, I’ve purchased the choose, pick, or select your own size by mistake. They drive me crazy! When I want a paper towel, I want a full size sheet and even if I did opt for the choose, pick, or select your own size, I’ve noticed that they don’t tear properly at the perforated edges and then that adds additional craziness to the madness I feel!
What’s your preference? Do you like the choose, pick, or select your own size or are you like me, full size sheets? Do you have a favorite brand?

Well, I buy what’s on sale, so don’t really pay attention to the brand or the size options on each roll. However, having said that, I have gone to tear a large sheet and ended up with an annoying small one instead! So, I agree with you that my preference is uniform sized large ones! If I need to wipe up a small spot of something, I can tear off a corner. I just wish companies didn’t feel the need to keep changing things that already work!
I agree Joyce, don’t fix what’s not broken 🙂
I can’t live without paper towel. We always buy for the best price.

Yes Kathleen, got to get those deals when we can.
I agree. I hate those tiny sheets especially the bargain brand that doesn’t hold moisture. I love Viva
Glad to hear you agree Beth 🙂
I usually buy what is on sale but that usually is Bounty. Sometimes I like the big sheets and other times I like the half sheets. Its hard to believe that something like paper towels can cause us such a dilemma.
Have a great week,
Yes, what a dilemma Bev 🙂
My husband does the shopping in our household and he usually looks for value for money. We use Viva which seems to be stronger, although if something is on sale he will probably go for that. I’ve used paper towels for years and couldn’t imagine not having them in the pantry. So many uses.
Yes Sue, my hubby shops at times too and brings home the select a size type at times.
I totally agree! Often when I try to tear the small piece kind, it doesn’t tear right anyway. We use a lot of paper towel in my preschool classroom – about 1/2 a roll a day and that is because we also have baby wipes. If we didn’t we’d probably finish the whole thing off! I tear big pieces in half on my own. Works fine!
Glad to hear you agree Sinea! Why fix something that’s not broken 🙂
I always buy Bounty, and I prefer the select-a-size. I go to Target and get the biggest package of the biggest rolls. Only last time, grrrrr, I failed to notice they were not select-a-size! So now we’re cutting/tearing them in half ourselves — such a burden! 😀 I try to use as few as possible, so keep a stack of dishcloths on the counter that we use for all but the messiest jobs.
Oh no Jean, you’re anti-full size sheets 🙂 Sorry, couldn’t resist. I guess I make a bigger mess than you do, huh?
I buy whats on sale. Trying to cut down on paper towel usage. I cut old towels in a paper towel size and sewed them up on edges. Party on at Blogging Grandmothers.
Good idea Candy!
I love Bounty but buy what’s on sale. Thanks for linking up at NanaHood.com so I could find you!
Oh you’re most welcome Teresa 🙂
I use dishcloths for most everything, but I do like to have a 2-pack of the select size to use for draining bacon or straining excess melted lard to reuse (I’d say I go through that in 3 to 4 months). I also keep paper towel in the barn – there are some messes that I am just NOT going to put through my washing machine (plus sometimes I can’t make it up to the house when I’m up to my elbows in something & suddenly realize I really have to pee NOW!)
I understand completely Mrs Shoes 🙂
I don’t really care about the brand, but I do like the full size sheets. I seem to use more when the grandchildren are visiting, so I tear them in half.
I have to insist on full size sheets Rhonda.
Great conversation, well it took me a while but I have finally transitioned to the small sheets, at the encouragement of my son to help save the trees. And I try to only use paper for greasy messes, cloth for everything else. And I found Viva and the new texture.
Thank you for sharing on Something Old Is Something New this week, I appreciate your participation. Have a great week!
I suppose we should all follow your son’s advice Karren.
I’m a Bounty Prints girl. I love the designs. I was featured next to you on SOISN. I love reading the old posts and comments!
Oh WOW Kristie, good to know! Didn’t know I was featured 🙂
I love the smaller sheets, but I can see how it would be annoying if you don’t. In fact, I often tear the small sheets into thirds! I find that I often just need a little bit to wipe smthg up and I hate ruining towels. I love paper towels but I’m very careful not to waste them. Every sheet costs 1 cent, and even that adds up. Let me encourage you that paper towels aren’t created equal; some definitely tear better than others into the sheet size you want.
My pet peeve is when people say “In regards to” instead of “in regard to.” The editor in me always wants to correct them but I usually bite my tongue. 🙂
Janine, I agree that paper towels are not created equal. I see grammar errors all the time and I don’t think they even know they’re doing it 🙂
Full size for me here. And on the off chance the only alternative for me to purchase is the select a size I find myself still using two. I’m not a fan of select a size. Good thoughts Dee.
A half of a towel is never enough, Paula. Why can’t they just leave well enough alone?
