People have been naming boats/ship since forever. You’ll find article after article about the reason for doing so. Done mainly for identification and communication purposes, they are often named for sentimental, traditional, and superstitious reasons:
• Logically, naming a boat helps others to identify it
• A feminine name brings good fortune and protection (female names were once dedicated to goddesses, later on important mortal women)
• Naming a boat after one that sunk is bad luck
• Changing the name of a boat is bad luck
• Never sail on a boat without a name, yet again, it’s bad luck
• Naming a boat after a storm or natural disaster, bad luck again as it will anger Poseidon
Here are some boat names I’ve come across:
|A Canoe Wouldn’t Do
|All Hands on Deck
|Go with the Flow
|Aweigh We Go
|Going Off the Deep End
|Queen of the Sea
|Reef in Peace
|Belle of the Sea
|Reef Us Alone
|Dock and Roll
|Ride the Tide
|Life is Boat-iful
|Schooner Than Later
Just as with boats, particular homes have been traditionally named as well. You’ll see this with castles, estates, manors, and villas. Today, it’s very common to name your beach home. It’s sort of like a logo for the house. Giving your beach home a name makes it memorable for your guests and it’s fun to give it a name!
Here’s some beach house names I’ve seen:
|A Reef Intermission
|Dune Our Thing
|Sea Breeze Bliss
|All Docked Out
|Fiddler on the Reef
|Fun in the Sun
|Seas the Day
|Once Upon a Tide
|Life’s a Beach
|Busy Bee by the Sea
|Rest a Shored
|Shore Beats Work
|Sandy Feet Retreat
We chose Vitamin Sea for our boat and beach house. We all know that vitamin C is found in citrus fruits, berries, and other foods and is good for our health. So, with a play on words, we came up with Vitamin Sea being near the water and beach, to be so good for the mind, body, and soul!! That name fits them both perfectly! A local artist painted the name onto the boat. We had a local woodworker make the signs for the house and beach area. Below are some that you can have personalized online.
Do you have a boat, beach home, or family home that is named? Do you have an interesting name in mind or one you think would be fun to use?
