INTERNATIONAL SAFETY PIN DAY
Walter Hunt, an American mechanic and inventor, created the modern day safety pin. He received a US patent April 10, 1849. The anniversary of the patent day is informally celebrated annually.
The design of this ingenious invention has remained nearly the same. Strong and sharp but safe enough to be to be used on clothing. Millions of safety pins can be made by one factory in a single day today.
There is a container of safety pins in our house but we rarely use them. I have used them to make crafts and jewelry.
I suppose the most I ever used safety pins was with cloth diapers when my firstborn came along. Notice I didn’t say when my babies were in diapers? Yes, I used disposable diapers! Was I a bad mommy?
How about you, do you regularly use them? Although we don’t, I still think this was a much needed invention!
