GHOSTS AT THE STANLEY HOTEL
Submitted by Pat from Mille Fiori Favoriti.
My husband and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado with a three-night reservation!
F.O. Stanley, the inventor of the Stanley Steamer, built the grand hotel in 1909. By the 1970s, the hotel’s splendor had faded due to lack of care and investment. It might have eventually succumbed to a wrecking ball if not for a visit by author Stephen King. A stay of one night was enough to inspire his third major work and first hardcover bestseller The Shining, which remains a landmark masterpiece in a long and well-known list of novels.
Famous for its old world charm, the hotel has had multiple renovations that have restored it to its original grandeur while offering over 14,000 square feet of sophisticated meeting and event space equipped with modern amenities. Only an hour away from Denver, it is the ideal destination for your Colorado getaway.
The hotel has a reputation for being haunted and I was intrigued by the thought, although I really don’t believe in such things. There are tours that highlight the paranormal activity. We did hear squeaky stairs and rattling windows, but I slept very soundly all three nights, without any sight of a ghost!
However, look what I found when I downloaded the following photos from our stay.
This photo shows the back of the hotel’s reception desk. When we were checking in, I noticed that the room keys hanging on the wall grid behind the reception desk began to glow and flash! Soon after I took the photo the keys stopped flashing! Imagine the chill I had when I finally saw this photo! See the streaky shadow to the left in the photo, if you look closely you can make out a hand!
This photo is even creepier. My husband and I walked down to see the outside of room 217, the room that Stephen King stayed in and is supposedly haunted! Can you see the face in the flash reflection on the door?
I can’t say I believe in ghosts, but I did think these photos were pretty uncanny!
