THE BOOK
Creating Family Archives: A Step-by-Step Guide for Saving Your Memories for Future Generations. Our family history doesn’t just come from our memories and stories passed down, it is most usually documented in old papers, photos, and videos – all memories that we want to save and properly archive.
Written by an archivist to take you through the process of preserving your family archives, it’s the first book of its kind offered to the public by the Society of American Archivists.
We all have boxes of old papers, photos, and videos. It can be a daunting task just thinking about organizing all of it! Hopefully this book will make it easier for you by inspiring and guiding you.
You are guided through taking stock of what you have and what to keep, toss, or give away. Archival supplies are covered with information on understanding what archival quality means when buying those supplies. The guide continues with preserving your papers, photos, scrapbooks, albums, and books. There are chapters on storing, displaying, and sharing your archives. The guide ends with making your collections digital as well as preserving those digital collections.
