QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR BLOG
NAME OF YOUR BLOG: AGING LIKE A FINE WINE – AND EMBRACING THE SECOND HALF OF LIFE!
WHERE DO YOU LIVE: I live in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. We are about a mile away from the Potomac River and Maryland. Our area is atypical of most of West Virginia.
WHAT DO YOU WRITE ABOUT: I write about things relevant to this stage of life. Many of those things are relevant to all ages though, such as recipes, DIY projects, travel. However, grandparenting is one of my favorite things to write about!
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME FOR YOUR BLOG: I wanted a name that would reflect this stage of life in a positive light and “Aging Like a Fine Wine” just popped into mind.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START BLOGGING: My daughter-in-law is a popular “mommy blogger” and that’s how I learned about this thing called blogging. She was very encouraging and I thought if so many other people were blogging, then just maybe I could too. I was hoping to reach out to other ladies my age, form relationships and hopefully be a blessing in their life.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING: 2 years
WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST CHALLENGING OR FRUSTRATING ABOUT BLOGGING: Finding the time to keep up with social media is probably the biggest challenge.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU BLOG: I would like to post 2 x per week in addition to link parties I co-host. It often just ends up being 1 post per week though.
DO YOU PARTICIPATE IN LINK PARTIES: Yes, I co-host two link parties – Party in Your PJ’s every Tuesday evening and Blogging Grandmother’s the 1st of each month. In addition I try to link up to several other link parties. It’s a challenge to find the time to read other blogs on the link parties though and if I’m going to link up I want to be sure and comment on others.
THE BEST THING ABOUT BLOGGING: Meeting so many wonderful people definitely!
QUESTIONS ABOUT YOU AS A GRANDMOTHER
WHAT DO YOUR GRANDCHILDREN CALL YOU: Grandma
HOW MANY GRANDCHILDREN DO YOU HAVE: I have 6 wonderful, precious grandchildren. My son and his wife live close by in West Virginia and have 4 children – 7 and 3 year old daughters and 5 and 1 year old sons. My daughter lives in California and has 2 children, a 14 year old son and 12 year old daughter.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET TO SEE YOUR GRANDCHILDREN: I see the 4 that live close by at least once a week. At least 1 of them and often all 4 spend the night every week. I only get to see the two in California once, twice if I’m really lucky, each year.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING A GRANDMOTHER: Seeing those little faces light up with joy when they see me is wonderful, then they come running to give Grandma a big hug! They bring me such joy and a greater purpose in life.
QUESTIONS ABOUT YOU
MARRIED, SINGLE, DIVORCED, WIDOWED: Happily married to my very best friend, Paul for almost 34 years!
HOW MANY CHILDREN DO YOU HAVE: I have one daughter and two sons.
DO YOU WORK OR ARE YOU RETIRED, WHAT IS OR WAS YOUR PROFESSION: I am a Registered Nurse and I am currently working one day per week in community health. I have to say I’m ready to completely retire though. Paul is ready too and the plan is for that to happen next year.
WHAT IS THE BEST AND WORST THING ABOUT GETTING OLDER: Grandchildren are definitely the best thing! The worst thing is the aches and pains that come along with it and realizing that you just can’t do everything you once could.
WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY: Spending time with my family – Paul, my children and grandchildren, my mom and sisters and all the rest of the family. As we’ve gotten older my sisters and I have become more precious to one another and wish so much we lived close. I’m here in WV, my younger sister and mom are in California and my older sister is in Washington.
WHAT 3 WORDS BEST DESCRIBE YOU: Compassionate, caring, introvert.
WHAT ARE 3 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT YOU: I became a Registered Nurse at the grand age of 48, as a little girl all I wanted to be was a cowboy, I like change and adventure.
HOBBIES: Gardening, crocheting, reading, DIY projects.
PETS: Right now we have one dog, a beautiful and sweet collie named Gunnar. But I’ve had many pets, including a miniature horse, miniature donkey, pot belly pig and goat.
FAV ICE CREAM: Definitely chocolate chip cookie dough.
FAV COLD DRINK: A nice cold bottle of Michelob Ultra! I love Pepsi too, but I don’t allow myself to drink it very often… too much sugar, so actually I mostly drink just plain water. That’s healthiest anyway!
FAV FOOD: Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and corn.
FAV AROMA: Lilac bushes when they bloom in the spring.
FAV PERFUME: Estee Lauder Pleasures
FAV AUTHOR: I don’t actually have a favorite, I go through stages as to the type of book I like to read the most. At one time it would have been Mary Higgins Clark, but not so much anymore. I loved Bill Bryson’s A Walk in the Woods.
FAV MUSIC: I like such a variety of music. Country, 70’s rock, jazz…
FAV TV SHOW: Paul and I find ourselves enjoying more and more British shows. I guess I would say Poldark is my favorite, but there are so many good ones – Death in Paradise, Doc Martin, Doctor Blake, and Inspector Lewis.
FAV TV SHOW WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD: Roy Rogers (kind of fits in with my wanting to be a cowboy).
WERE YOU A GIRLY GIRL OR A TOMBOY AS A CHILD: I was a tomboy.
SPRING, SUMMER, FALL, OR WINTER: Fall, I just wish it lasted longer.
DO YOU HAVE A TALENT: I probably do, but I haven’t found it yet!
WHAT TALENT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO HAVE: I have always wanted to have musical talent.
EARLY BIRD OR NIGHT OWL: Night owl
HOW DO YOU RELAX: I love to spend time at home with nowhere that I have to be and nothing I have to do, just puttering about doing things I want to do.
MOVIES OR BOOKS: This is sad, but since I started blogging I’ve had little time to read, so I’m going with movies here.
CELL PHONE – APPLE OR ANDROID: Apple
CALLING OR TEXTING: Texting definitely. I don’t know why but I have a real aversion to calling.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO TELL US: My blog started out with both of my sisters participating. They both found that it required much more time than they felt they could commit to it, so it has only been me for most of the journey. Thank you Dee for this opportunity to participate in the Blogging Grandmothers Series!
