QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR BLOG
NAME OF YOUR BLOG: HOLD MAMA’S HAND – MUSING FOR MOMS FROM THE GRANDMA SIDE OF LIFE
WHERE DO YOU LIVE: Grants Pass, Oregon
WHAT DO YOU WRITE ABOUT: I write about the adventures and blessings of being a mom, hoping to encourage younger moms as well as those of us with empty nests. I speak fluent “sticky”.
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME FOR YOUR BLOG: I originally called it “Brambleberry Hollow” after our house, and I was Brambleberry Mama, but the name didn’t really reflect much about my writing. I wrote a poem about how we start by holding our mothers hand, and eventually she olds ours, called “Hold Mama’s Hand” and decided it was a much better fit.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START BLOGGING: Friends have told me for years that I remind them a bit of Erma Bombeck (a favorite of mine for so many years) and I decided it was time to actually start writing…but working on a book seemed too big to start, so a blog was my first step.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING: Almost exactly one year.
WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST CHALLENGING OR FRUSTRATING ABOUT BLOGGING: I am not good about consistent writing, and very slow about figuring out how to “promote” my own posts through the various social media platforms. I am comfortable on Facebook and Pinterest, but Twitter is still a total mystery!
HOW OFTEN DO YOU BLOG: Once a week…except when new grand babies are being born!
DO YOU PARTICIPATE IN LINK PARTIES: I have done two, and really enjoy them so far.
THE BEST THING ABOUT BLOGGING: My kids are young, and tired of listening to my stories. I love that I have a way to tell them where they will be able, when they are ready, to find them. In the meantime, I love the thought of being an encouragement to others. Being a Mom can be very hard work.
QUESTIONS ABOUT YOU AS A GRANDMOTHER
WHAT DO YOUR GRANDCHILDREN CALL YOU: Ma-ma-ma. Short for “Grand mama”.
HOW MANY GRANDCHILDREN DO YOU HAVE: Three, all boys, age 5, 2 and 1 month.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET TO SEE YOUR GRANDCHILDREN: Every day…they just moved in with us, planning to stay for a year or so, to save for a house.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING A GRANDMOTHER: I love every minute of being available to those little boys, and being a help to my daughter when her kids are tiny…our military years meant all of my children’s grandmothers were very far away. It is thrilling to have them close by.
QUESTIONS ABOUT YOU
MARRIED, SINGLE, DIVORCED, WIDOWED: Married 29 years this August.
HOW MANY CHILDREN DO YOU HAVE: Three, one girl and two boys.
DO YOU WORK OR ARE YOU RETIRED, WHAT IS OR WAS YOUR PROFESSION: I am a retired Coronary Care/Cardiac Rehab RN, retired home-school mom/military spouse, and current Volunteer Coordinator for the Career Center at our little local High School.
WHAT IS THE BEST AND WORST THING ABOUT GETTING OLDER: I love the experiences that got me this far, but hate that I don’t have the energy I used to.
WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY: I worked with life and death for over 15 years in the hospital. I find joy in almost every aspect of my day, because life is precious.
WHAT 3 WORDS BEST DESCRIBE YOU: Happy, Brave, Nurturing.
WHAT ARE 3 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT YOU: I am married to the Tooth Fairy. We were engaged in only NINE days. Our fathers have the EXACT same name: Robert Laverne Anderson.
HOBBIES: Quilting, scrapbooking, gardening, canning, beekeeping, chicken raising, volunteering, public speaking, pie making and of course, blogging.
PETS: Two chocolate labs, one yellow lab, one Siamese cat, two canaries, five finches, a fish tank with guppies, and 14 chickens. Do three bee hives count as pets? We call them “our girls.”
FAV ICE CREAM: Rocky Road
FAV COLD DRINK: Diet Pepsi
FAV FOOD: Apple pie
FAV AROMA: Rose
FAV PERFUME: Obsession
FAV AUTHOR: Mary Stewart
FAV MUSIC: Praise and Worship, and 80’s pop.
FAV TV SHOW: Psych
FAV TV SHOW WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD: Bewitched and Gilligan’s Island.
WERE YOU A GIRLY GIRL OR A TOMBOY AS A CHILD: I am (and always have been) a tomboy with an extra helping of mud.
SPRING, SUMMER, FALL, OR WINTER: Fall
DO YOU HAVE A TALENT: Public Speaking…I can make scholarship hunting sound interesting.
WHAT TALENT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO HAVE: Computer giftedness with all things blogging.
EARLY BIRD OR NIGHT OWL: Night owl when ever possible.
HOW DO YOU RELAX: We live in the woods with a seasonal pond. I do a lot of bird watching…with lots of woodpeckers and wood ducks visiting, there are a lot of them to see.
MOVIES OR BOOKS: Both, but always the book before seeing the movie.
CELL PHONE – APPLE OR ANDROID: Apple
CALLING OR TEXTING: Calling if it is important, otherwise just texting.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO TELL US: Most of my blogging is simply telling stories, or sharing encouragement as we all muddle through. I feel like Jesus has brought me through an awful lot, and I am a slow learner, but it is fun to share about finally getting a few things figured out. I look forward to meeting more blogging grandmothers through this event!
