QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR BLOG
NAME OF YOUR BLOG: GRANDMOMMIN – THIS AIN’T YOUR GRANDMA’S GOLDEN YEARS
WHERE DO YOU LIVE: South Carolina
WHAT DO YOU WRITE ABOUT: Call me Stella because I’m still trying to find my groove. We are always being coached to write about what we’re passionate about. For me that’s Family, Food, Fashion, and Fun. (These really are my favorite F-words). Ultimately, I want to write about things that add value. If I read about a buy one get one free coupon for Diet Dr. Pepper – that adds value to my life. The blog is a blend of frivolous and serious topics that connect us. You can never underestimate the power of humor so if this blog makes someone smile or giggle, I’ll consider that a might fine accomplishment.
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME FOR YOUR BLOG: The blog title was inspired by the current trend of seeing t-shirts and wine glasses with “Mommin Ain’t Easy”.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START BLOGGING: We were blessed with 5 grandchildren within 17 months (all four daughters-in-laws were pregnant at the same time). I didn’t have a lot of time to adjust and quiet frankly being a grandparent today is a quite different than it was for our grandparents. I thought we should unite and conquer.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING: Not quite a year.
WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST CHALLENGING OR FRUSTRATING ABOUT BLOGGING: There is so much to learn and so much information accessible, I often get sucked into the rabbit hole. The biggest challenge is finding and securing dedicated time. More experienced bloggers have likely mastered the “snag snippets of time when you can” method, but I’m an all or nothing kind of person. Once I’m focused its hard to start and stop.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU BLOG: I do something with my blog every day (rabbit hole research, social media, listening to podcasts, etc). I try to do a blog post about once a month.
DO YOU PARTICIPATE IN LINK PARTIES: I have participated few times. I’m not sure I completely understand how they work, but I like the concept. I want to make sure that I’m not taking more than I’m giving. That’s the back end part I haven’t figured out yet.
THE BEST THING ABOUT BLOGGING: This is embarrassing to admit. When I was a child, I took the dictionary to bed with me and would study a new word each night then spend the next day using it as many times as I could. No surprise – I did not have a lot of friends. Basically, I just love words. Oddly enough, I’m not much of a talker and I’m the wallflower at any party. Blogging gives me an opportunity to share and connect with others that may be walking the same path.
QUESTIONS ABOUT YOU AS A GRANDMOTHER
WHAT DO YOUR GRANDCHILDREN CALL YOU: Nay Nay
HOW MANY GRANDCHILDREN DO YOU HAVE: Six with two more on the way. (Eight by January).
HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET TO SEE YOUR GRANDCHILDREN: I typically get to see most or all of them at least once a week. I keep 2 of them two days a week, another 1 one day a week, and visit 2 others once a week. There’s almost always at least 2 of them here on Sunday afternoons.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING A GRANDMOTHER: For me personally, it felt more like I survived parenthood. This is just pure and simple joy. All I’m responsible for is loving them. It helps that their parents are doing a really good job.
QUESTIONS ABOUT YOU
MARRIED, SINGLE, DIVORCED, WIDOWED: Married to my best friend.
HOW MANY CHILDREN DO YOU HAVE: Four sons (and four amazing daughters-in-law). Two grew under my heart and my two step children grew in my heart.
DO YOU WORK OR ARE YOU RETIRED, WHAT IS OR WAS YOUR PROFESSION: It was important for me to have a bigger role in the lives of my grandchildren than just a weekend grandmother. With the support of my husband and some major budget adjustments, I gave up a full-time healthcare marketing career to spend as much time as possible with them. I’m very fortunate to be able to maintain part-time work in the marketing field that allows me enough flexibility to help with the babies and still contribute financially.
WHAT IS THE BEST AND WORST THING ABOUT GETTING OLDER: Unequivocally, the best part is enjoying these little people. I also really enjoy growing old with my husband. The drooping, sagging, wrinkling part does suck. I guess the worst part is recognizing how much time was wasted on things that really didn’t matter.
WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY: I’m pretty much a happy person without a lot of effort. Seeing my family happy makes me happy. Throw in some time at Folly Beach with a good book and a frozen adult beverage from Taco Boy and I’ll switch gears to giddy all day long.
WHAT 3 WORDS BEST DESCRIBE YOU: Curious, Introvert, Compassionate.
WHAT ARE 3 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT YOU: I once made a half court shot when I played basketball for my school. NOBODY believes me. I didn’t get a drivers license until after I was married. I can only wink my left eye.
PETS: A 14 yr old toy poodle who is BOSS and a 1 year old Australian Shepherd (OMG!).
FAV ICE CREAM: Ben and Jerry’s Phish Food
FAV COLD DRINK: Frozen Screwdriver from Taco Boy (seasonally), Diet Dr. Pepper (daily).
FAV FOOD: Anything Greek but I could seriously eat pizza every day.
FAV AROMA: Maple syrup or bacon.
FAV PERFUME: Pure Grace by Philosophy
FAV AUTHOR: A tie between Wally Lamb and Anita Shreve.
FAV MUSIC: There’s not much I don’t like except heavy metal. I like it all from Sam Smith to Patsy Cline.
FAV TV SHOW: This Is Us
FAV TV SHOW WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD: Chips
WERE YOU A GIRLY GIRL OR A TOMBOY AS A CHILD: More tomboy than girly.
SPRING, SUMMER, FALL, OR WINTER: Summer!
DO YOU HAVE A TALENT: Does sarcasm count?
WHAT TALENT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO HAVE: I would love to be able to sing well.
EARLY BIRD OR NIGHT OWL: Both
HOW DO YOU RELAX: Folly Beach or lake time. Recently, I’ve really been enjoying time at our farm. (This is a surprise to all who know me). My husband has decided to become a cattle farmer and I love seeing how happy and peaceful he is when he’s with his cows.
MOVIES OR BOOKS: Books
CELL PHONE – APPLE OR ANDROID: Apple – I drink the Kool-aid.
CALLING OR TEXTING: Texting. I loathe talking on the phone.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO TELL US: I am beyond thankful for God’s grace and mercy. Grace is getting what you don’t deserve and Mercy is not getting what you deserve.
