QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR BLOG
NAME OF YOUR BLOG: GWIN GAL’S INSIDE AND OUT ADVENTURES – DIY, HOME DECOR, GARDENING, & MIDDLE AGE ADVENTURES
WHERE DO YOU LIVE: A small town (suburb) outside of Birmingham, Alabama.
WHAT DO YOU WRITE ABOUT: Midlife Adventures which include Gardening, DIY, Home Décor and Travel (especially local travel).
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME FOR YOUR BLOG: Obviously it’s a play on my name combined with the fact that I have decided to go out on a limb and do some things that are out of my comfort zone.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START BLOGGING: I had a blog before blogs were cool. I used it as a way to easily share things and pictures with my family, especially my mama (and my daddy who was still with us at that time). I am originally from the coast of North Carolina (about 600 miles from here) and I only got to see my parents and siblings a couple of times a year. The internet provided a free and easy way to communicate daily. I wish I still had those blog posts, because in my memory, they were good ones! I chose to begin again as blogging became more popular as another stretch outside of my comfort zone. Meeting new people, sharing thoughts and ideas with others, putting myself “out there” are all scary for me.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING: About a year and ½.
WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST CHALLENGING OR FRUSTRATING ABOUT BLOGGING: The technical parts of the web page. Figuring out how to do certain things, getting things to work right, etc.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU BLOG: Twice a week on Monday and Thursday.
DO YOU PARTICIPATE IN LINK PARTIES: Yes I do. I need the help of like minded people to help me figure out those things I mentioned earlier that are challenging to me and this is one of the best places to find, meet, and bond with other bloggers with more knowledge.
THE BEST THING ABOUT BLOGGING: Well, I think I just used this answer for the question before! Oops! But one other thing that I really like about blogging is that it pushes me to get some things done that I have been wanting to do but just haven’t gotten around to doing. If you are going to blog about DIY, then you have to get stuff done. LOL!
QUESTIONS ABOUT YOU AS A GRANDMOTHER
WHAT DO YOUR GRANDCHILDREN CALL YOU: Ninny. My grandniece called me this name when she was around 2 and was unable to say Nikki. Then a few years later when my first grandchild was to be born, my daughter asked me what I wanted to be called. I chose Granny, she thought that was hilarious, and not acceptable. She also said that Nana, and Granna were both taken. Plus my mama is Mom and my daughter’s other grandmother is Mamaw. Original names by this time were getting scarce. I then suggested Ninny. They laughed at first but then agreed. It was a couple of years later that I found out that my first cousin is called Ninnie by her grandkids, and that my mama was called Ninnie by her much younger brothers. So it seems that I am carrying on a family tradition that I didn’t even know about!
HOW MANY GRANDCHILDREN DO YOU HAVE: Our blended family consists of 8 grandchildren. The youngest one is 4 weeks old and the oldest one is 19.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET TO SEE YOUR GRANDCHILDREN: Five of them live in the same town and we see them maybe once a month. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Two live in Nashville, TN which is just a 3 hour drive, and we see them about every 6 weeks or so. We also have one other that we are not allowed to see. That is a very sad situation and such a loss for the child and us.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING A GRANDMOTHER: The Love. The totally unconditional love that they have for you. Chloe is 8 now, but about a year ago, her mama was telling her something and Chloe emphatically replied, But NINNY TOLD me so! And she had total faith that whatever Ninny had told her was the absolute truth.
QUESTIONS ABOUT YOU
MARRIED, SINGLE, DIVORCED, WIDOWED: I was divorced many years ago and remarried 9 years ago, although we have been together 17 years.
HOW MANY CHILDREN DO YOU HAVE: I birthed two daughters in my previous marriage. My husband and I have a total of 4 children, 3 girls and 1 boy.
DO YOU WORK OR ARE YOU RETIRED, WHAT IS OR WAS YOUR PROFESSION: I work full time at a small computer company. My daily job consists of taking phone calls from customers who call asking how to perform a certain action or with something not working correctly. I will then talk them through how to do whatever they were asking about, or fix the problem that they called about. I also train new customers how to use our program. This job is done on-site at the customer’s office so it involves travel. We only do work for local government offices, so all travel is within the state of Alabama.
WHAT IS THE BEST AND WORST THING ABOUT GETTING OLDER: The best has to be grandkids. But more personal than that is that I get to do more of what I want to do. I spend my money on myself and I shop for me and I go where I like to go. The worst has to be finding clothes that fit and flatter. For many many years I could buy ANYTHING and it fit and looked good on me. Then my body changed. I hated going shopping because I could look and try on for hours and find nothing that really flattered. It took years, but I’ve finally found where to shop to find styles that work for a middle-aged woman.
WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY: Flowers, hugs, tiny surprise gifts, family.
WHAT 3 WORDS BEST DESCRIBE YOU: Loyal, Dependable, Honest.
WHAT ARE 3 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT YOU: As much as I fear being the center of attention, I secretly long to be. If you had told me at ANY point in my earlier life, that I would end up answering phones for a living, I would have croaked. I don’t think that I am interesting.
HOBBIES: Gardening, reading, traveling, swimming, ANYTHING outdoors! I also enjoy cooking, but only when I want to. And I LOVE home décor but don’t have the budget for doing it.
PETS: We travel too much to have pets. I do have goldfish in my pond but they take care of themselves. And Mr. Menace (Dennis) has honey bees. I might get a dog one day when I retire.
FAV ICE CREAM: Chocolate
FAV COLD DRINK: Diet Pepsi, Ice Tea, Jack & Diet Pepsi.
FAV FOOD: I love food, period. But I especially love Italian, Mexican, and good ole American. I love vegetables!! It would be easier to tell you that I don’t care for liver and I’m not fond of Chinese.
FAV AROMA: After a rain. Or maybe the ocean.
FAV PERFUME: I wear Pink Sugar on a daily basis and Killer Queen by Katy Perry on evenings out.
FAV AUTHOR: I like to read the historical novels by Philippa Gregory, and I am totally hooked on the real life, feel good, short stories by Sean Dietrich, also known as Sean of the South.
FAV MUSIC: Country and ole time Rock and Roll.
FAV TV SHOW: I don’t really have one at the moment. House, M.D., was the last show that I was totally hooked on, so I am excited to see the new one this fall called The Good Doctor written by one of the same people. Another one that I couldn’t miss was Downton Abbey. And Mad Men…. Jon Hamm….What I’m watching now: Project Runway, The Bachelor(ette), everything on HGTV.
FAV TV SHOW WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD: I watched Bewitched every single day after school. And I remember loving The Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights.
WERE YOU A GIRLY GIRL OR A TOMBOY AS A CHILD: I guess I was a tomboy. I spent a lot of time in trees. And I had an older brother and we played a lot of basketball, baseball, and fort (army). But I liked pretty dresses and wanted to wear makeup too! And to tell you the truth, I am still the same way. I love hiking, and sports, and anything outdoors, but LOVE to dress and glam it up.
SPRING, SUMMER, FALL, OR WINTER: SUMMER!!!
DO YOU HAVE A TALENT: Not really. I can sing (harmonize) fairly well, and have always enjoyed glee club and singing at church.
WHAT TALENT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO HAVE: I am a bit envious of my husband’s talent of writing poetry. But then, If I had that talent, his wouldn’t seen so special to me.
EARLY BIRD OR NIGHT OWL: Neither. I am a bit envious of people that get up and see the sunrise every day and that’s what I wish I was, but I like to get up around 8 on days off, so that’s not really early, but I abhor sleeping late. I feel like that is a waste of my day. And I like to go to bed around 10:30, 11 at the latest.
HOW DO YOU RELAX: Gardening is therapy. Every day when I get home from work, I take a short walk around the yard and just look at everything. Nothing much has ever changed from the day before, but I love to take in the beauty. Then after supper, I love to sit out on our new deck and just watch the evening close. There is a lot of bird activity just before and at dusk.
MOVIES OR BOOKS: Both. But I guess movies because they don’t take as much time and I can see more than I can read in the same amount of time.
CELL PHONE – APPLE OR ANDROID: I have an Android – Galaxy S 8+
CALLING OR TEXTING: Texting. I have a real hatred of phones.
