QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR BLOG

NAME OF YOUR BLOG: NANCY ON THE HOME FRONT – LEARNING TO LIVE A HEALTHIER LIFE ONE STEP AT A TIME

SOCIAL MEDIA: Facebook • Instagram • Pinterest • Twitter

WHERE DO YOU LIVE: I live in the beautiful state of Vermont in a very small town called Bridgewater.

WHAT DO YOU WRITE ABOUT: When I first started I was writing about life on the home front, which included frugal tips, keeping a pantry, gardening tips and of course recipes. Once a week I am one of the co-hosts of the Simple Homestead Blog Hop where folks share their posts on homemaking, homesteading and homeschooling. Our home is currently on the market so we’ve gotten rid of our chickens, cut back on the gardens and we are using up what’s in the pantry not stocking up! I’m kind of in a transition and I’m not sure how the focus will change once we move!

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME FOR YOUR BLOG: When I first started blogging I was hired by a company called Prudent Living, they were involved in solar power, energy efficient homes, etc. and wanted someone to write a blog about “Prudent Living at Home” thus Prudent Living on the Home Front was born. Eventually I went off on my own and changed the name to Nancy on the Home Front. My focus is my life at home and learning to be frugal one day at a time.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START BLOGGING: I first started blogging as a job and enjoyed it so much I continued blogging even after I no longer worked for Prudent Living.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING: My first blog post was on September 19, 2011, six years ago!!

WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST CHALLENGING OR FRUSTRATING ABOUT BLOGGING: Currently the most challenging aspect of my blog is dealing with my Webmaster! I’m in the process of finding someone new to host my blog. Other than that keeping on top of all the numbers can be challenging.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU BLOG: I blog 3-5 times a week. I was being very consistent about blogging five times a week but this summer I’ve cut back.

DO YOU PARTICIPATE IN LINK PARTIES: Yes, I participate in link parties and am a co-host for a party every Thursday!

THE BEST THING ABOUT BLOGGING: The absolute best thing is the other bloggers I have met! They are so encouraging and helpful.

QUESTIONS ABOUT YOU AS A GRANDMOTHER

WHAT DO YOUR GRANDCHILDREN CALL YOU: Grammy!

HOW MANY GRANDCHILDREN DO YOU HAVE: Three, ages 6,4 and 1. (Two girls and a boy).

HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET TO SEE YOUR GRANDCHILDREN: Right now only once or twice a year as they are all living on the west coast which is why our house is on the market, we plan to move to the west coast as well.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING A GRANDMOTHER: I always enjoyed being a mom and I think being a grandmother is even better. A chance to speak wisdom into your grandchildren’s lives, to encourage them and just love them and spend time with them.

QUESTIONS ABOUT YOU

MARRIED, SINGLE, DIVORCED, WIDOWED: Married for 37 years to my high school sweetheart!

HOW MANY CHILDREN DO YOU HAVE: Four; two girls and two boys.

DO YOU WORK OR ARE YOU RETIRED, WHAT IS OR WAS YOUR PROFESSION: My profession was always being a stay at home mom although I’ve held various jobs over the years from cancer research to administration. I am currently working part time as a caregiver to an amazing man who is 99 years old and sharp as a tack but blind.

WHAT IS THE BEST AND WORST THING ABOUT GETTING OLDER: The worst thing about getting older is realizing how quickly life goes by. Plus the aches and pains that come with age.

WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY: I love hiking in the woods, enjoying the ocean, spending time in the garden, cooking, entertaining and of course being with my children and grandchildren!

WHAT 3 WORDS BEST DESCRIBE YOU: Organized, easy going and a good listener.

WHAT ARE 3 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT YOU: I met my husband in Germany during a high school exchange trip even though we were from the same hometown, I’m a Master Gardener, and I know how to make Nantucket Lightship baskets!

HOBBIES: Gardening, cooking, hiking, sailing, reading.

PETS: Currently we have no pets.

FAV ICE CREAM: Peppermint Stick

FAV COLD DRINK: Water

FAV FOOD: I have so many favorites it is hard to choose! Maybe shrimp.

FAV AROMA: Lilacs blooming in the spring and the smell of the ocean breeze.

FAV PERFUME: Don’t wear perfume too often, too many people in my life are allergic but I do love Opium.

FAV AUTHOR: Definitely can’t pick one, I love to read and read so many different authors!

FAV MUSIC: Elevation worship

FAV TV SHOW: We do not have cable and instead use Netflix to watch TV. I enjoy detective shows, especially British shows like Folye’s War.

FAV TV SHOW WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD: We weren’t allowed to watch much TV when I was a kid! I did enjoy Davey and Goliath!

WERE YOU A GIRLY GIRL OR A TOMBOY AS A CHILD: Definitely a tomboy, spent all my free time exploring the woods with my girlfriend and skating and sledding in the winter.

SPRING, SUMMER, FALL, OR WINTER: Summer and fall! Although I love all seasons, just enjoy having a change of seasons.

DO YOU HAVE A TALENT: I can sing and play the guitar, I know how to knit and sew, I am a good gardener and a good cook.

WHAT TALENT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO HAVE: Public speaking

EARLY BIRD OR NIGHT OWL: Early bird! Early to bed early to rise!

HOW DO YOU RELAX: Go to the beach when I can and or read.

MOVIES OR BOOKS: Books

CELL PHONE – APPLE OR ANDROID: Apple

CALLING OR TEXTING: Texting

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO TELL US: I love family and have always encouraged our four children to be there for each other. They have all ended up within two hours of each other on the west coast and they love to get together and spend time together. It does my heart good to see this. Growing up we were not that close to our cousins and I was always so jealous of my friends that were.

I’ve been a bit behind with reading the last few getting to know you posts. Nancy you sound like you are such a well rounded person – you seem to be good at everything! You can even sing and play the guitar (one of the things I’d love to do). I’m so glad you’re getting the chance to move closer to your kids and grandchildren – I’d love to live closer to mine x

From Vermont to the west coast! Wow! What a change. I just took my first trip to VT back in October and loved it! I want to go again. And of course I want to make it to the west coast too someday. I loved learning more about you Nancy and I am already following you on social media.

Nice to get to know you, Nancy, through Dee’s interview. I would move the west coast, too, if my grandchildren lived there. Ours settled near us but we were prepared to move if they had decided to live far away. You are well rounded in your interests and I admire your blogging schedule! I work hard to keep up with a once weekly post. Checking out your blog!

Great to get to meet you Nancy and good luck with the sale of your home. I know it will be wonderful to be closer to your children and grandchildren. Vermont is on my bucket list. I would love to visit during the winter when there is lots of snow. It was nice to read about your part-time job. I know you are a blessing to the elderly gentleman and he is a blessing to you.

Hi Nancy, it was a joy to read your answers. I love getting a peek into each blogging grandmother’s life! I hope the sale of your home goes perfectly and your new adventure on the west coast is a wonderful transition. We live in West Virginia and I have 4 grandchildren 20 minutes away, but I also have 2 in California. I love the few times each year that I do get to see them! Teresa

Dee, thank you so much for posting this series!

Nancy, it’s nice to get to know a little about you. First of all, congratulations on 37 years of marriage; that’s impressive. Good luck on the planned move. From Vermont to the West Coast is a big deal, but totally worth it to be near family. I also love peppermint ice cream and the smell of lilacs. Now I’m off to visit your blog. Have a lovely day!

Nice to meet you. Love this series. How exciting that you are planning a move to the west coast to be closer to your grandchildren. Another blogger I follow has recently settled into a beautiful beach side home in California and is having incredible experiences everyday.

I am envious of your many talents. Sewing and singing! Cooking and gardening. Wow. Our happy things are very similar. Yay for grandchildren most of all.
