QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR BLOG

NAME OF YOUR BLOG: MY COLLECTED HOME – VINTAGE • ECLECTIC • REPURPOSED

SOCIAL MEDIA: Facebook • Google+ • Instagram • Pinterest • Twitter

WHERE DO YOU LIVE: Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

WHAT DO YOU WRITE ABOUT: Mostly home decor on a budget, repurposed items, vintage and beach style.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME FOR YOUR BLOG: My home has been decorated from things I have collected from thrift stores, markets, garage sales etc so the name fit perfectly.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START BLOGGING: My love of home decor and a need to create from what others have discarded. Also, I was unable to work due to health problems so I needed something to keep my mind and my creative ideas going and to find joy in my life.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING: I started about two and a half years go but I was only posting spasmodically because there was so much to learn especially in the web design. I did it all myself so am learning more everyday. Of course remembering it all is another matter!!

WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST CHALLENGING OR FRUSTRATING ABOUT BLOGGING: The actual writing and understanding of the technical side.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU BLOG: I’m trying to blog once a week but have been really sick so I’m trying to get back to that.

DO YOU PARTICIPATE IN LINK PARTIES: I’ve only just started in the last 2 months. I don’t have a lot of confidence so I kept putting it off thinking no one would look at it. Fear is quite paralyzing at times and I am working on feeling the fear but doing it anyway. It is very liberating so bit by bit I am overcoming this.

THE BEST THING ABOUT BLOGGING: Meeting other amazing bloggers who are supportive and being creative. It has given me a new life.

QUESTIONS ABOUT YOU AS A GRANDMOTHER

WHAT DO YOUR GRANDCHILDREN CALL YOU: Nanna

HOW MANY GRANDCHILDREN DO YOU HAVE: 8

HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET TO SEE YOUR GRANDCHILDREN: I have 2 living about 5 minutes away so I  see them each week, I have 3 on the Gold Coast who are teenagers, I see them every couple of months but will see more of them when I move there, one in Sydney so not as often and 2 in Rome, Italy that I see about once a year.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING A GRANDMOTHER: I think we learn so much as a mother and want to be a good parent so I think we can enjoy our grandchildren more because we don’t have the full responsibility for them. I love being with them and they always make me laugh. My eldest grandchild just turned 21 but it seems only like yesterday that he was born.

QUESTIONS ABOUT YOU

MARRIED, SINGLE, DIVORCED, WIDOWED: Divorced

HOW MANY CHILDREN DO YOU HAVE: 4 daughters

DO YOU WORK OR ARE YOU RETIRED, WHAT IS OR WAS YOUR PROFESSION: I originally worked as a legal secretary but when I was getting back into the workforce again I got pregnant with my fourth daughter. It was around that time that I started getting Chronic Fatigue Syndrome but wasn’t diagnosed till years later. I did work again only part time in aged care and then disability care until I couldn’t physically do it anymore. I was also going through a lot of stress, then my Mother died so wasn’t good for awhile. I’m on a disability pension now.

WHAT IS THE BEST AND WORST THING ABOUT GETTING OLDER: Becoming wiser and most of the time not caring what others think! I am a much more peaceful person and grateful for everything I have but mostly grateful for my children and grandchildren. I don’t have a lot materially but I feel rich in other ways and that is a great feeling.

WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY: Hot weather and sunshine, the ocean and creeks and waterfalls, my cat and dog and most importantly my children and grandchildren. Must not forget creating, that fulfills the creative side of me.

WHAT 3 WORDS BEST DESCRIBE YOU: Cheerful, compassionate and crazy!!

HOBBIES: Reading, crafts, collecting shells and driftwood, cooking (sometimes), hunting in thrift stores.

PETS: My dog Mindy a Jack Russell who I got from the pound and my cat Cruz who I also got from the pound.

FAV ICE CREAM: Mango

FAV COLD DRINK: Besides water, white wine.

FAV FOOD: Oysters

FAV AROMA: The smell of the ocean

FAV PERFUME: Opium

FAV AUTHOR: So many but I just read a book by Ken Follett and he is a great writer. Also, an Australian author Judy Nunn.

FAV MUSIC: Rock, Soul, a bit of everything except Opera and Classical.

FAV TV SHOW: I rarely watch TV but I love the home decor shows and comedies. I really miss Seinfeld, I loved it!

FAV TV SHOW WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD: Superman, The Munsters.

WERE YOU A GIRLY GIRL OR A TOMBOY AS A CHILD: Tomboy

SPRING, SUMMER, FALL, OR WINTER: Summer

DO YOU HAVE A TALENT: I’m one of those “jack of all trades, master of none” but if I had to say anything it would be my crafting.

WHAT TALENT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO HAVE: To paint, I love art!

EARLY BIRD OR NIGHT OWL: Neither! But I wake up early now that I don’t have to!

HOW DO YOU RELAX: Reading, but if my brain is too tired I watch old videos on YouTube and listen to music.

MOVIES OR BOOKS: Books

CELL PHONE – APPLE OR ANDROID: Apple

CALLING OR TEXTING: Texting

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO TELL US: I love a good joke!

In some ways it feels like a lifetime ago that I watched these programs and in some ways it feels just like yesterday! It’s good to get to know you Helen and all the other bloggers, it’s a great little community! Having Dee look after us so well is great, like a big sister!

Another Aussie Midlife blogger – I’m in WA but all the “in” crowd seems to be Qld – I feel quite left out! 🙂 You certainly do more interesting things than I do around the house – I’m not a DYI’er but always admire those of you who have the knack of it.

Nice to meet you Linda! I’m glad you’re overcoming your fear of participating in link parties. That was probably the single thing that helped me most to meet other bloggers and gain some exposure for my own blog. That, and Dee’s hosting and coordinating skills, of course! Like you, I enjoy white wine, reading, and sunshine. I also miss Seinfeld. Unlike you, I have no crafting skills. I do appreciate that talent in others. I’m hopping over now to visit your blog!

Yes the link parties have opened up a new world for me, connecting with other like minded bloggers. It’s given me some much needed confidence and everyone is so kind and encouraging. I love crafting, it’s really why I started the blog. Everyone has their strengths and their weaknesses, I’m sure you would have talents that I don’t have. It’s how I’ve learnt new skills, looking to others and learning from them.

Hi, Linda! I’m pleased to meet you. I’m going over to your blog after I post here. Please, don’t let fright keep you from doing what you want. What I’ve noticed about bloggers is that most of them are on the shy side. This is a great group and I certainly appreciate all that Dee does to give us a forum. We are not over the hill, we are just now seeking new adventures. I certainly look forward to getting to know you better.

Hi Marisa, yes it’s a great group and I’m really enjoying getting to know you all. I feel like this age is a start of another great adventure. I’ve had an empty nest for a number of years now and I’ve learnt to embrace it and enjoy this time, I’m learning so many new skills and meeting wonderful people. What more could I want?

Thank you Sue. I’m actually in the process of moving to the Gold Coast, the removalist arrives tomorrow. I haven’t been around the last few weeks because of this but can’t wait to get back into it. We definitely are neighbours, we’ll have to have a coffee together in the near future!

Oh the fear. It really holds me back and has all my life. Just like you, I am working on that. Also, I’d love to be an artist and would love to take painting classes to learn a little bit about how to even get started.

Me too Nikki! It’s on my to do list! Fear can be paralyzing at times, courage means feeling the fear but doing it anyway. Most of the time it’s not nearly as bad as we might think and it’s very liberating when we stand up to it. It’s good getting ton know you too.
