QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR BLOG
NAME OF YOUR BLOG: CRESTING THE HILL – CELEBRATING MIDLIFE BECAUSE THE BEST IS YET TO COME!
WHERE DO YOU LIVE: In the southwest of Western Australia – Yes I’m a born and bred Aussie.
WHAT DO YOU WRITE ABOUT: Celebrating Midlife, the empty nest, creating your own happiness, marriage, family, friendship.
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME FOR YOUR BLOG: I see Midlife as the crest of the hill – the hard climb to the top is over and there’s time to sit back and enjoy the view before it’s time to coast down the other side.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START BLOGGING: I wanted somewhere to record my thoughts – I never expected it to be a such a social activity. I love the connections and the friendships as much as I love writing.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING: Nearly three years – 550 posts and counting!
WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST CHALLENGING OR FRUSTRATING ABOUT BLOGGING: The technical side has been a huge learning curve – I had no idea about HTML, SEO, keywords, themes, Google Analytics – the list goes on….
HOW OFTEN DO YOU BLOG: Three times a week – Monday, Wednesday, Friday. I try to keep my weekends fairly low key and off-line to give me some down time.
DO YOU PARTICIPATE IN LINK PARTIES: Yes, but only a few because I don’t relate well to Mommy blogs, DIY or cooking – I want to read other blogs that resonate with me and I can engage with.
THE BEST THING ABOUT BLOGGING: The connections! I have made so many friends all over the world and I’ve been encouraged and inspired to live my very best life. It has turned Midlife around for me.
QUESTIONS ABOUT YOU AS A GRANDMOTHER
WHAT DOES YOUR GRANDCHILD CALL YOU: Nan – well she’s still really little and says Nan, Nan, Nan – so I’m claiming that as her name for me!
HOW MANY GRANDCHILDREN DO YOU HAVE: One gorgeous little 18 month old granddaughter named Sophia.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET TO SEE YOUR GRANDCHILD: She lives 90 minutes away so we only get to see her every 4 weeks or so.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING A GRANDMOTHER: You get all the love and cuddles and joy, with very little responsibility – no more being the mean Mum (just the nice Nan!)
QUESTIONS ABOUT YOU
MARRIED, SINGLE, DIVORCED, WIDOWED: Married to the same lovely man for 35 years.
HOW MANY CHILDREN DO YOU HAVE: Two – a 31 year old son who’s married and the father of our grandbaby, and a 28 year old daughter who is also married. Both live in the city about 90 mins away. Our son is an engineer and our daughter teaches High School English.
DO YOU WORK OR ARE YOU RETIRED, WHAT IS OR WAS YOUR PROFESSION: I work 3 days a week as a receptionist for a surgeon.
WHAT IS THE BEST AND WORST THING ABOUT GETTING OLDER: The best is that all the hard yards are pretty much behind us. We have successfully launched our children, paid off our mortgage and both work part-time. The worst is the little aches and pains, the wrinkles and crinkles, the few extra kilos – just the body starting to show my age!
WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY: My husband, my kids, my grandbaby, my friends. Having a good balance of busy and relaxed in my life. Probably the biggest thing is learning that happiness is up to me – I choose my attitude and I choose joy whenever possible.
WHAT 3 WORDS BEST DESCRIBE YOU: Upbeat, loyal, organized.
WHAT ARE 3 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT YOU: I have never met a potato chip I didn’t like. I have a song for every occasion. I am a baby whisperer – babies I hold all fall asleep.
HOBBIES: Blogging (of course), reading, Pinterest, jigsaws, colouring-in.
PETS: Two cats – a Burmese named Flit who is super sociable and a Scottish Fold named Callie who is aloof and super quiet.
FAV FOOD: Hot potato chips – or any form of potato fried and covered in salt!
FAV PERFUME: Clinique ‘Aromatics’ in Winter and Elizabeth Taylor ‘White Diamonds’ in Summer.
FAV AUTHOR: Nora Roberts (and her JD Robb pseudonym) and Diana Gabaldon.
SPRING, SUMMER, FALL, OR WINTER: Autumn – golden and warm – it’s also the season for Midlife – after the hot and heavy days of Summer and before the cold of Winter.
DO YOU HAVE A TALENT: No – I can’t sing for nuts, I have no natural rhythm so can’t dance either – but I do both exuberantly when nobody is around.
WHAT TALENT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO HAVE: I’d love to be artistic and I’d also love to be able to sing like the angels – not much chance of either happening I’m afraid.
HOW DO YOU RELAX: With a good book, or over a cup of coffee, or indulging in an afternoon nap, or watching a movie with my husband.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO TELL US: Not really – just a thank you to Dee for inviting me to participate and I’d love you all to pop over to my Facebook page and give it a Like – I’m trying to reach 1,000 likes.
