QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR BLOG
NAME OF YOUR BLOG: FAIR MEADOW PLACE – HOME STYLE, EASY ELEGANT DECORATING, GARDENS, AND TRAVEL
WHERE DO YOU LIVE: I live now and have always lived in Ontario, Canada.
WHAT DO YOU WRITE ABOUT: I write about home decor, easy and elegant decorating, gardens, and some travel. Really, I write about anything pertaining to home with the odd recipe thrown in.
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME FOR YOUR BLOG: The name of the blog comes from our farm. At one time cows were kept and I always enjoyed seeing them out on the pasture in summer with lots of green grass and sun. It also comes from our city home that was built on what was once farmland.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START BLOGGING: Inspiration to write came after I retired. It was then that I went back to school, taking one course per semester, to complete and become a certified interior decorator. I knew that I didn’t want to take on any big projects for clients. What I did want to do was talk about what I knew. My knowledge is accumulative from a lifelong interest and participation in home keeping, decorating, interest in art as well as my continued education.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING: Since January 2017.
WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST CHALLENGING OR FRUSTRATING ABOUT BLOGGING: The challenging part of blogging for me has been learning how to work within the confines of a blogging format. I sometimes feel constrained by this. I would like to do things that the programme does not allow. It has been a learning curve for me. I have had to learn some interesting and challenging computer programmes over the years, such as Autocad, so I feel that there is a capacity to keep on learning these things.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU BLOG: I set myself the goal of blogging twice per week to start with the idea that I might increase this after a year or so. Over the summer, I have missed my goal a couple of times, but often life changes plans and not always in a bad way.
DO YOU PARTICIPATE IN LINK PARTIES: I do and credit them with helping to build readership.
THE BEST THING ABOUT BLOGGING: I get to be creative every day.
QUESTIONS ABOUT YOU AS A GRANDMOTHER
WHAT DO YOUR GRANDCHILDREN CALL YOU: My grandchildren mostly call me Nana.
HOW MANY GRANDCHILDREN DO YOU HAVE: I have two granddaughters who I adore.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET TO SEE YOUR GRANDCHILDREN: I see both girls every week. I look after the youngest at least one day per week. The older granddaughter lives close to me and it is easy to get together as often as we like. At one time the oldest girl and her mother lived with me.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING A GRANDMOTHER: There is such a special bond between the grandchildren and me. I never knew before they came along how much they would tug at my heart. I am so thankful for them.
QUESTIONS ABOUT YOU
MARRIED, SINGLE, DIVORCED, WIDOWED: I am divorced and now share life and family with my life partner.
HOW MANY CHILDREN DO YOU HAVE: I have two children, a son and a daughter.
DO YOU WORK OR ARE YOU RETIRED, WHAT IS OR WAS YOUR PROFESSION: I am retired. I worked as a podiatric assistant for eleven years and then later worked as a medical secretary/office manager.
WHAT IS THE BEST AND WORST THING ABOUT GETTING OLDER: The best thing about getting older is having the freedom to pursue favourite interests such as blogging and travel. The worst thing about getting older is that I am running out of time to accomplish everything on my list.
WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY: Lots of things make me happy including grandchildren. As long as I am healthy and can live with a certain amount of freedom, my family and friends are thriving, I am happy.
WHAT 3 WORDS BEST DESCRIBE YOU: Honest – very important to me. Empathetic. Courageous, but not dangerously so.
WHAT ARE 3 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT YOU: I am sure there are some facts that are sort of interesting about me. I feel I have lived an interesting life and I am grateful for that.
HOBBIES: Reading, blogging, painting, gardening, travel, crafts of many types.
PETS: I’ve had a few. At this time there are no pets in the city home. I always had cats there, but the last one died just before Christmas 2016 at the ripe old age of twenty-four. I didn’t know they could live that long. In the country, we are down to one dog, a Border Collie named Sasha, and a few barn cats.
FAV ICE CREAM: I can’t believe I am saying this – Vanilla. I like to think I am more diverse, however, it goes with everything.
FAV COLD DRINK: Currently water, although I do like ice tea too, it is sometimes too sweet.
FAV FOOD: It is so hard to pick one fav food. I guess I will go with a comfort food, Mac & Cheese.
FAV AROMA: Flowers, peonies to be specific.
FAV PERFUME: I don’t have a favourite. Over the years I have given up wearing it as so many places you go people have allergies.
FAV AUTHOR: Favourite author is a hard one for me. I like to read and I look for books that receive good reviews. I also like to go back and read some of the well-reviewed books I may have missed over the years. I am currently finishing up my summer reading list. I can’t really say I have a favourite author at this time.
FAV MUSIC: Jazz and blues, a little country, classical. B.B.King, any of the old or new blues singers, Willie Nelson. I recently purchased a CD of piano music the lyrics by Johnny Mercer. Really, I like most music.
FAV TV SHOW: The British Baking Show on PBS. I watch far too much CNN and I like most of the programmes on PBS.
DO YOU HAVE A TALENT: My talent is mostly with people and being empathetic to them.
WHAT TALENT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO HAVE: The talent I would most like to have is to be a better artist. I have been working on improving my skills so I am sure my paintings will be selling for millions of dollars pretty soon, ha ha. The truth is, I am not looking to sell my paintings, but to improve my skills.
EARLY BIRD OR NIGHT OWL: I tend to get up on the early side. I am mostly not a night owl.
HOW DO YOU RELAX: With a book and a cup of tea or glass of wine. Painting puts me in another place where I can relax.
MOVIES OR BOOKS: Both. I don’t go to the movies unless they come highly recommended.
CELL PHONE – APPLE OR ANDROID: Android
CALLING OR TEXTING: Texting
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO TELL US: With regards to my blog, my goal is to first and foremost make it look pretty and entertaining. After that, I hope that I can impart some useful and insightful knowledge or information along the way. I will give my honest opinions whether reviewing a product or experience in travel, cooking, and gardening. The blog is supposed to be a fun for me and everyone who reads it.
