BLOGGING GRANDMOTHERS SERIES 3 WITH PAT FROM MILLE FIORI FAVORITI
The 19th blogging grandmother to be featured in the Blogging Grandmothers Series 3 is Pat.
NAME OF YOUR BLOG: MILLE FIORI FAVORITI
SOCIAL MEDIA: Facebook • Instagram • Pinterest • Twitter
WHAT MAKES YOU SMILE: Adorable things grandchildren say and their little drawings and handmade gifts.
YOUR FAV SNACK: Anything salty.
WHAT QUOTE APPEALS TO YOU MORE THAN ANY OTHER: “Look at everything as though you were seeing it either for the first time of the last time.” -Betty Smith from A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
FUNNY OR SCARY MOVIE: The scariest movie is The Shining. It was partially filmed in the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park Colorado. Stephen Kind stayed in that hotel, which has a reputation of being haunted and saw a ghostly apparition that night which inspired him to write his novel The Shining. It’s a beautiful old hotel and my husband and I stayed there for an anniversary one year. When I downloaded my photos a ghost-like blur was in one of my photos! I blogged about that experience here.
POOL, LAKE, OCEAN, OR NONE: I lived near the Atlantic Ocean most of my life before moving to Colorado, so I have to say ocean.
DO YOU MONETIZE YOUR BLOG: I have ads from when “BlogHer” began years ago I was one of their premier year members. Blogging was small and intimate back then and many bloggers became angry when blogs began to run ads. I did not expect to make much money, and I don’t, as my blog audience is small, but I decided why not try it to see if I could earn some of my blogging expenses back? I pay extra for cloud storage of photos on Google so it’s nice to cover that expense.
HOW DID YOU MEET YOUR SPOUSE OR PARTNER: My best friend invited me to go along with her on a ski trip that was being run by a recreational club at her job. My husband was the president of that club and was also on the trip and my friend introduced him to me. We went snowmobiling and ice skating together –he did not ski– and started dating afterward.
HOW LONG DO YOU PLAN ON BLOGGING: I’ve been blogging almost 12 years and plan to continue as long as I can. My blog is sort of the life journal for me about where I live and the places and events I go to, etc. The first half was Brooklyn and the rest of NYC, the second half has been Colorado where we moved 6 years ago so that we could live close by to our children and grandchildren.
FAV TYPE OF MUSIC: I love many types of music except rap. I loved opera ever since a high school music teacher introduced our class to La Traviata. My husband grew up hearing opera played in his house, he is Italian by birth, so we had yearly subscriptions to the NYC Metropolitan Opera when we lived there, and now we attend Opera Colorado and Central City Opera. I’ve blogged about many opera occasions in the past.
DOGS OR CATS: I have granddogs and a grandcat so I love both! I’ve had many cats in my life but right now we don’t have any pets.
IF PAST LIVES ARE REAL, WHAT WAS YOURS: My DNA is mainly Irish/English so I must have lived a quiet life in either country!
ARE YOU AFRAID TO BE ALONE IN YOUR HOUSE: Never! I enjoy solitude at times.
DO YOU HAVE ANY RECURRING DREAMS OR NIGHTMARES: Not really. Last year was a sad year for us as we lost friends and family members to heart attacks and cancer, so I do feel vulnerable as I am now of Medicare age.
YOUR EARLIEST MEMORY: It is of my fraternal grandmother who lived with us a few years. She passed away when I was 3, but I remember her rocking me on her lap in her rocking chair.
DO YOU HAVE A BUCKET LIST? IF SO, WHAT ARE THE TOP 5 THINGS ON IT: I hope to visit more of my beautiful state of Colorado, I want to visit more National Parks – I’ve seen about half of the 59 parks, I’d like to travel again to Ireland and Italy, and then see some new European cities, I’d like to take the grandchildren to see Christmas season in NYC, and we’d like to take an “around the world cruise” but that’s a real pipe dream – maybe if we win mega millions – hah!
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO SAY: Being a grandparent is a wonderful privilege! I hope to be able to live long enough to see great grandchildren one day. I feel wonderfully blessed by my life and I look forward to however much time God grants me.
