BLOGGING GRANDMOTHERS SERIES 2 WITH NIKKI FROM GWIN GAL INSIDE AND OUT
The 16th blogging grandmother to be featured for the Blogging Grandmothers Series 2 is Nikki.
NAME OF YOUR BLOG: GWIN GAL INSIDE & OUT
WHAT IS YOUR FAV SAYING:
“Let me live in my house by the side of the road,
Where the race of men go by-
They are good, they are bad, they are weak, they are strong,
Wise, foolish – so am I.
Then why should I sit in the scorner’s seat,
Or hurl the cynic’s ban?
Let me live in my house by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.”
~ Samuel Walter Foss
WHAT IS THE MOST UNUSUAL THING IN YOUR WALLET OR PURSE: Not too much unusual in my “purse”… I call it a pocketbook, but since we are “of the age” you will often find a bottle of my Mr.’s pills in there and I always keep aspirin for emergencies since he is a heart patient. But Dee, you reminded me of a couple of things that I have in my wallet… 1. I have a business card that my Mr. slipped me, with his phone number on it, way back when he was trying to get me to go out with him. 2. I have a deposit slip on which he wrote me a poem many years ago.
DO YOU UNTIE YOUR SHOES WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF: Yes, I usually untie them when I take them off so that it is easier and quicker to put them on the next time, because I am usually in a hurry and possibly running late when I am getting dressed in the mornings.
DOES WISDOM COME WITH AGE: I’d say yes. I personally have learned SO much. But then again, I often wonder, just WHEN do I become the knowledgeable wise person that people seek out to answer their questions because I don’t think I am there yet???
WHAT IS ONE THING THAT DRIVES YOU CRAZY: Someone not doing what they said they would do.
WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD, WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GREW UP: I do not recall ever having a burning desire to be any particular thing when I grew up. And that’s always been a problem. I still don’t know. I do know that I played “banker” a lot, so that could be a hint. But then again, I also play cowboys & Indians a lot too.
WHAT IS ONE THING YOU REALLY LIKE ABOUT YOURSELF: I like that I am dependable.
DO YOU HAVE A GREEN THUMB: I do. I absolutely LOVE growing things. I’d rather dig in the dirt than do most anything. Funny thing is, I can’t keep a plant inside the house alive for anything.
HAVE YOU GONE THRU MENOPAUSE? IF SO, WAS IT HARD TO DEAL WITH: Yes. I went through early menopause. I had a total hysterectomy when I was 38 after dealing with endometriosis for a few years. I wish I had done it sooner! The surgery has made my life SO much better! And no it has not been hard to deal with. I can’t even begin to remember what having a period feels like and was so happy to give it up.
IF YOU COULD CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT YOURSELF, WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE: Just one. Oh dear. That’s a hard one. But I think it’d be my indecisiveness. *snickering*
WHO IS THE ONE PERSON WHO HAS HAD THE GREATEST IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE AND WHY: My mama and she still does. She was the one who raised us. Daddy was the bread winner, but mama was with us all the time.
COULD YOU TAKE A VACATION AWAY FROM ALL TECHNOLOGY AND IF SO FOR HOW LONG: Yes, I could. However, I do love sharing with friends and family if I see or do something cool, so I’d be thinking “oh I’d love to show this to “so & so”… Since I live a good distance from my mama and the rest of my family I use Facebook to share with them what is happening in my life. However, I could still do it if necessary for a month or so. But I’d need to call my mama. She is about to turn 81 soon.
DO YOU KNIT, CROCHET, OR QUILT: I don’t do any of them right now.I do know how to crochet and have made things when I was a stay at home mom. I have helped my mama quilt and made a baby quilt a long time ago. You didn’t ask, but I am a really good seamstress. I used to make my daughters matching dresses. And recently I’ve made Halloween costumes for several people.
IF YOU WERE STRANDED ON A TROPICAL ISLAND, WHAT 3 ITEMS WOULD YOU WANT TO HAVE WITH YOU: Book, binoculars, music (radio?).
ARE YOU EMBRACING OR FIGHTING GRAY HAIR: Fighting to the death.
IF YOU HAD A TIME MACHINE AND COULD USE IT ONLY ONCE, WOULD YOU VISIT THE FUTURE OR THE PAST AND WHY: I do not want to know what the future holds. I would go to the past and relive some favorite times like meeting my Mr. Menace and our many adventures.
DO YOU BELIEVE IN EXTRATERRESTRIALS: No.
IF A MOVIE WAS MADE OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT ACTRESS WOULD YOU WANT TO PLAY YOU? WOULD THE MOVIE BE AN ACTION FILM, COMEDY, DRAMA, HORROR, ROMANCE, OR SCI-FI: Maybe Sandra Bullock and I’m sure it’d have to be a romance. 🙂
HOW OLD DO YOU FEEL: 35. Except when I’ve been working in the yard all day on Saturday. Then I feel every single year of 57!
WHAT ADVICE WILL YOU OR HAVE YOU GIVEN TO YOUR 18 YEAR OLD GRANDCHILD/GRANDCHILDREN WHEN THEY GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL: You are young and have the opportunity to see and do things now that you won’t have chance to do in a few years. Do them.
