BLOGGING GRANDMOTHERS SERIES 2 WITH NANCY FROM NANCY ON THE HOME FRONT
The 8th blogging grandmother to be featured for the Blogging Grandmothers Series 2 is Nancy.
NAME OF YOUR BLOG: NANCY ON THE HOME FRONT
WHAT IS YOUR FAV SAYING: Love one another. What is simple often isn’t easy; what is easy often doesn’t last. – Bob Goff. I am currently reading Bob Goff’s latest book Everybody Always. It is a wonderful book all about becoming love in a world full of setbacks and difficult people. Currently all of my favorite sayings come from this book!
WHAT IS THE MOST UNUSUAL THING IN YOUR WALLET OR PURSE: Each New Year’s Eve we have a tradition in our family of picking a scripture card for the year ahead. On one side is a scripture and the other side a prayer. The following New Year’s Eve we take out last year’s card and share how it pertained to the previous year. We then pick a new card for the year ahead. I try to carry the scripture card in my wallet each year so I can think about it from time to time.
DO YOU UNTIE YOUR SHOES WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF: No, usually just pull them off!
DOES WISDOM COME WITH AGE: Yes wisdom definitely comes with age although at this point I often think I should have much more wisdom than I do!
WHAT IS ONE THING THAT DRIVES YOU CRAZY: When people do not do what they say they will do! When someone says they are going to do something I think they should follow through and do it. When they don’t I get very frustrated.
WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD, WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GREW UP: First I always wanted to be a mom, then I wanted to be a singer, then a teacher and then a veterinarian! Ended up working for a veterinarian and then became a full time mom!
WHAT IS ONE THING YOU REALLY LIKE ABOUT YOURSELF: I am a good friend. I try to be there for others and encourage them along the way.
DO YOU HAVE A GREEN THUMB: Yes! I love to garden and have extensive flower gardens and have always had a vegetable garden each year. I love houseplants too although with a potential move I have downsized my house plants!
HAVE YOU GONE THRU MENOPAUSE? IF SO, WAS IT HARD TO DEAL WITH: Yes I have, not too hard to deal with although I had some related health issues. Glad it’s all behind me now!
IF YOU COULD CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT YOURSELF, WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE: I would like to become more comfortable in large groups of people. Perhaps I should take part in one of those Dale Carnegie courses that help you to overcome your fears of speaking in public!
WHO IS THE ONE PERSON WHO HAS HAD THE GREATEST IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE AND WHY: My mother! She had several tragedies in her life yet she remained one of the most positive people I knew. She loved to garden and she was interested in preserving land. Not only did she work for the Guilford (CT) Land Trust and the Nature Conservancy but she also started a recycling program in my hometown in the early seventies before recycling was even a thing! Through her efforts one of the largest tracts of land (over 600 acres) was preserved for public use in our hometown!
COULD YOU TAKE A VACATION AWAY FROM ALL TECHNOLOGY AND IF SO FOR HOW LONG: Absolutely! I would love to take a whole month off and just relax and read, preferable by the ocean!
DO YOU KNIT, CROCHET, OR QUILT: I love to knit and have also done some crochet. I have also made many quilts but no hand sewing, the quilts have been done all on my sewing machine.
IF YOU WERE STRANDED ON A TROPICAL ISLAND, WHAT 3 ITEMS WOULD YOU WANT TO HAVE WITH YOU: My husband, knife and a shovel.
ARE YOU EMBRACING OR FIGHTING GRAY HAIR: Embracing my gray hair, tried dying it for a very short time but couldn’t be bothered!
IF YOU HAD A TIME MACHINE AND COULD USE IT ONLY ONCE, WOULD YOU VISIT THE FUTURE OR THE PAST AND WHY: What a hard question, it would be interesting to visit the future and see how our grandchildren grow up and what they do with their lives but I would choose to visit the past. My favorite grandmother died when I was 12, I would love to have some more time with her.
DO YOU BELIEVE IN EXTRATERRESTRIALS: No, angels yes, extraterrestrials no.
IF A MOVIE WAS MADE OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT ACTRESS WOULD YOU WANT TO PLAY YOU? WOULD THE MOVIE BE AN ACTION FILM, COMEDY, DRAMA, HORROR, ROMANCE, OR SCI-FI: I think it could be a romance comedy drama with Sandra Bullock. My husband and I met in Germany on an exchange trip in high school! We dated on and off through college before deciding to marry. He has a very god sense of humor and we both love to laugh so comedy would definitely be a good fit. However we have also had lots of drama in our 38 years of marriage!
HOW OLD DO YOU FEEL: I feel much younger than I look! I might say I feel like I am in my thirties! I try to stay active and exercise. Sometimes I overdo and then I feel much older!
WHAT ADVICE WILL YOU OR HAVE YOU GIVEN TO YOUR 18 YEAR OLD GRANDCHILD/GRANDCHILDREN WHEN THEY GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL: Find what their passions is, take classes and find your true calling. Make good friends while in college, often they become lifelong friends. Live within your means, don’t spend more than you have. Learn how to budget. Find summer internships so that you can explore what sort of job you would want in the future. Work hard but remember to enjoy life. Remember that family is important and stay in touch.
