Can you believe it? The World Wide Web turns 30 today!
Sir Tim Berners-Lee is a British computer scientist who invented the web in 1989.
As always, Google Doodles has come up with an animated graphic to celebrate the event!
Looking back over 30 years, it’s hard to even begin to calculate the number of sites we’ve visited for communication, entertainment, news, research, shopping, etc.
Just a few interesting sites along the way that also include web browsers: About, Adobe, AltaVista, Amazon, America Online, Angelfire, Apple, Bing, Bitly, Blogspot, CNet, Craigslist, Dictionary, Digg, Download, eBay, Etsy, Expedia, Facebook, Fandango, Firefox, Flickr, GeoCities, Gmail, Go Fund Me, Google, Google Chrome, Homestead, Hotmail, Instagram, Internet Explorer, IMDb, KickStarter LinkedIn, MapQuest, Mashable, Microsoft, Microsoft Edge, MySpace, Napster, Netflix, Netscape, PayPal, PhotoBucket, Pinterest, Reddit, Safarim Skype, SoundCloud, Spotify, StumbleUpon, The Weather Channel, TicketMaster, TripAdvisor, Tripod, Tumblr, Twitter, Vimeo, Vine, W3Schools, Wayback Machine, WebMD, Wikipedia, WordPress, Yahoo, Yelp, YouTube, and ZDNet.
Of course the list is in no way complete as there are TONS (nearly 2 billion) of websites online that include dating, education, gaming, government, news, porn (yes, unfortunately), shopping, and the list goes on and on.
What are some of your favorite web addresses? How long have you been accessing the web?
